Traits of the Month for August/September: Be Responsible/Be Respectful
Be Responsible – To show accountability. Being responsible means students complete their assignments on time and follow the rules in all areas of the building.
Be Respectful – Being polite to others. It means that you show respect to your teachers, classmates and yourself.
I want to thank you for your cooperation in successfully beginning the school year. The students are well into their established routines. Our car drop off and pick up has been going very well, as has our bus arrival and dismissal.
Many exciting things have already started at DIS. Renfro Runners began this past Wednesday. The STEM challenges will begin shortly. We’ll be sending home permission slips for basketball soon and our Band/Chorus practices are also in full swing. We hope your student decided to participate in some of these programs.
Last year’s PARCC scores were sent home with your child today. For our 6 th graders, the scores represent the test from 5 th grade. For our fifth graders, the scores are how they performed on the 4 th grade exam. If you need any assistance interpreting the score report, please go to dis.kahoks.org, click on the Backpack tab at the top right of the page, then click on the Dorris backpack. The Parent’s Interpretation Guide is located there in the middle of the page. Once again, thank you for all you’ve done in making the start of the year a success. It’s great to be a T-Bird!
Yours in Education,
Principal – Dorris Intermediate School
Our DIS Fundraiser is underway! We had our kickoff assemblies on the 24 th and the books went home that day. If you are not interested in selling the books, please return them to school with your child ASAP. If you sell more than one book (which we appreciate!), please send the information and money in with your child and we’ll get you the extra book(s).
Thanks for supporting the fundraiser and DIS! The ending date is September 14 th.

Please - No Parking Next Door at Glazy Square
Many of you used to drop off or pick up students at the Glazy Square donut shop next door. Please help us be a good neighbor and improve student safety by using our circle drive for drop-offs and pick-ups. Their spots should be for customers only.
